Sustainable Design Project
Group 02
The team's mission is to design a residential home that meets PassiveHaus standards by using the most energy efficient resources. The team is dedicated towards a greener future that works with the environment to develop structures and create a suitable environment for generations to come.
THE PROJECT
The residential building in this design needs to meet a net energy use of zero. The energy used on site and the energy created will be thoughtfully used in terms of:
- Solar energy analysis
- Water collection and usage
- Energy use and electrical plug loads
- Material use and envelope design
- Air quality system and the effects of a BioWall
- Structural and interior aspects (overhang, fenestration, lighting etc...)
OBJECTIVE
The building will be held against the standards of PassivHaus to meet the main goal of energy use. The PassivHaus standards are:
- Building has annual heating and cooling demand as not more than 15 kWh/m2 per year in heating or cooling energy
- Primary energy usage must not be more than 60 kWh/m2 (19,020 BTU/sq ft; 20.07 MJ/sq ft) per year
- Building must not leak more air than 0.6 times the house volume per hour (n50 ≤ 0.6 /h) at 50 Pa as tested by a blower door
